Obama seems to have taken the Mexican drug wars more seriously. In order to support the troops that already set into the Southwest borders to fight against drug crimes, his government pledged for more manpower and financial aid.
The Obama administration has started planning for sending more federal agents to fight against Mexican drug cartels more effectively. The number of federal agents to be deployed for this mission is declared as 500. These include 350 agents from department of homeland security, 100 agents from Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and 16 more agents from Drug Enforcement Agency.
It is not just a fight against $18 to $39 billion illegal drug sales a year. It is also a fight against increased violence in these areas, which claimed around 7,000 lives in past 15 months.
President Obama has announced to visit Mexico by himself and discuss about the drug problems with Mexican president Felipe Calderón.
