Language is a medium of communication between any two persons or organizations. The main aim of communication is to make the other person understand what we mean. If the language is proper then only he can understand what you meant. Language is important in every walk of life. The main aim of translation is to break the business barriers by making the products and services available to every part of the world. Here language plays an important role, since it is the thing which is getting translated.

Different regions have different languages. According to 2007 report submitted by Department of linguistics from University of Pennsylvania, there are approximately 6900 official languages in the world. And in the era of Globalization, each and every company is trying to expand its company to every corner of the world. This effect of globalization makes the translation an ever growing industry with infinite opportunities.

Keeping the original meaning of the original text is very important step in translating. This can be achieved only with proper knowledge about the target language. This is the reason why most of the translators select their mother tongue or their regional language as the targeted language. It is also important to have sound knowledge on source language, because with out proper understanding, translation is not possible.

Translation also includes localization of the websites. Even though English is a standard language for all international businesses, the effect of knowing about some service in our own language makes a lot of difference in the consumers behavior. And not everybody are able to read English. Due to these reasons language is playing a major role in the field of translation.

Interpreter is a person who helps to convert one spoken language into another language. An interpreter requires strong research and analytical skills, mental dexterity, and an exceptional memory. Interpreters not only assist to overcome the language barrier, but they also assist in many other areas such as organization, formulating strategies and advising on cross cultural differences.

There are two types of interpretations, one is simultaneous interpretation which requires interpreters to listen and speak at the same time. In this type of interpretation, the interpreter has a task of quickly understanding what one person is saying before immediately translating it to others. One of the key skill needed by the simultaneous interpreter is decisiveness. Other type is the consecutive interpretation, which begins only after the speaker has verbalized a group of words or sentences. Generally, consecutive interpretation is carried out in face to face meetings, speeches or court cases. In this type, speaker will usually stop at regular junctures, say every few sentences, and have the interpreter to translate, before proceeding. Key skill required by the interpreter in this type of interpretation is, the ability to remember what has been said. Interpreters work in real time situations and they will be in direct contact with the speaker and the listener. Interpreters also act as a facilitator between speaker and listener, both linguistically and diplomatically.

General skills required by an interpreter is that he must have sound knowledge of the general subject of the speeches that are to be interpreted, general erudition and intimate familiarity, extensive vocabulary and excellent note-taking technique for consecutive interpreting etc.

Internationalization and localization are the terms which appear to be totally in contrast to each other, but the fact is, though they are different from each other in terms of their definition, functionally they are inter dependent. Internationalization represents broader sense, whereas localization represents narrower sense. To be specific, localization is a part of internationalization and internationalization is incomplete without localization.

Going by the definitions, internationalization is a process which involves designing a web page according to the tastes and preferences of the universal audience. It is done keeping in mind the global tastes and preferences. Whereas, localization or is the process of customizing a website according to the tastes, culture and preferences of the target market. It is very specific in nature.

Internationalization is generally done to expand the business all across the global. It increases the business presence in each and every corner of the world. Hence, it is necessary for a business to adapt a more generalized approach, so that, the business can be related by each and every global citizen.

Coming to localization, it is a part of internationalization. Localization cannot exist without internationalization. The main principle involved in internationalization is to reach each and every audience in the world. Localization is tool which facilitates this process, as it is not possible to reach a niche or specific market without getting customized to their needs. For the business to be felt more relevant to the target audience, website localization is the best strategy. Web localization helps in increasing the usability and accessibility of a website.

Translation is the method of translating a text in document from one language to another. It is not just a mechanical translation of words. An accurate translation needs complete apprehending of the original text and then converting it into the target language.

Machine translation: It is also called automatic translation, this can be any translation which is performed without human intervention, by making use of software, hand-held translators, online translators like Babelfish, etc. Machine translation is highly limited in quality and efficiency.

Machine-assisted translation: Translation which is done using machine translator and a human working combinedly. For instance, to translate “honey,” the machine translator will provide the options le miel and chéri so that the person can choose the one which makes more sense in the context. This is significantly better than machine translation, and some feel that it is more effective than only human translation.

Screen translation: Translation of movies and television programs, like subtitling (where the translation is typewritten along the bottom side of the screen) and dubbing (in which the voices of native speakers of the target language are listened in place of the original actors).

Sight translation: Document present in the source language is translated orally in the target language. This task is done by interpreters when an article present in the source language is not available with translation (like a memo delivered at a meeting).

Localization: It is conversion of software or other products to a different culture. Localization consists of translation of documents, dialog boxes, etc., and also linguistic and cultural changes in order to make the product suitable and correct to the target country.

When the Google was set up on a project which was to win over the language barriers, I thought it was some kind of project that is equal to building the great pyramid of Giza again.

This service helps users to translate a part of web page or some text to another language. This service, in other times, would have required a professional person; and you would have probably needed to pay for it. But Google offers it for free.

But Google translation is just like other automatic translations tools, after all, and has its own limitations. You can use it for translating only general content of your text or webpage. There are no grammatical rules.

So in all, Google has lot more to do for its translation tool. But the main question here is how can Google benefit from this service? Benefit mainly includes the production of content here.

Translation jobs are in demand right now because of several reasons. Two of these reasons are: the need to tap highly competent translators from other countries and the necessity of outsourcing translation jobs so that business outsourcing groups will have more time to do things that are more important and pressing. Translation jobs have been considerably extended in view of the great number of countries where translators are outsourced from. Translation is challenging and enjoyable especially to people who find these interesting and financially and professionally rewarding.

In doing translation, a Norwegian translator has to have the necessary tools like computer and dictionaries to get started. These tools are more like requirements to any translator. Persons engaged in translation jobs also have to designate considerable periods of each day because this kind of work also has pressures caused by deadlines and stringent standards. Persons doing translation also have to designate a specific workstation. Translation jobs are truly professionally and financially rewarding jobs that can bring you lots of enjoyment.

Translation jobs are by far the most simple and easy-to-do jobs available online. All you need to do is to translate data from English to some other language or vice versa. So if you know that “other language”, you can do the job easily.

Language services are expanding in order to meet the emerging needs and requirements of the global community. This involves many important services which can be described as follows:

Interpretation
Although the terms translation and interpretation are often used synonymously, they actually vary a great deal in meaning. Interpretation is the intellectual activity that facilitates oral or sign language communication, either simultaneously or consecutively, between two or more speakers. A common misconception is that interpreters are required to translate “verbatim”, i.e. provide a word-by-word rendering of what is said in the source language. However, this is not strictly true since the interpreter has to choose target language which fits the context and the listener’s level of understanding.

Language Revision
Language revision services are mainly utilised by the financial and entertainment industries. The material, which is often used for business purposes and promotions, is sent for review before it is released to the general public. Language revision is carried out by translators who are experts in the specific industry or field of the material. The materials revised include articles, brochures, promotional materials, applications, tender documents, leaflets and handbooks etc.

Business Communication
There is a growing need for businesses to be able to communicate in a variety of languages in order to be able to deal with global clients and service providers. Although English is the dominant business language, there is also a great need for local language skills, particularly in Europe. Business communication focuses on the specific context of the business or job.

Direct Text Production
It can be a challenge to translate texts which are intended for a wide readership. Advertising and tourism texts can thus be a challenge for a Norwegian translator. If there is any mistake in conveying the right message, the success of the whole project may be at stake. Therefore, many businesses opt for direct text production rather than translation. However, the translation is still based on the material in the source language.
